    PRESENTATION SUMMARY

Sexual wellbeing occurs at the intersection of Safety and Pleasure. Often talk about sexuality will focus on only one of these ingredients, leaving an incomplete picture of wellness. Education focuses on “sexual health” and the possible physical or emotional consequences of sex with the message of “Safe sex”. While on the other hand media and advertisements draw attention by promoting “Better sex” which usually follows a format of “try these easy steps” to pleasure. This presentation and discussion will speak to the importance of both safe and pleasurable sex.

When working with sexuality, it is important to find balance between aspects of safety, such as consent and prevention of STIs, and understanding ways the body experiences pleasurable sensations. Pillars of consent will include both an explanation of consent and other sexual health principles for increased safety. The anatomy of pleasure portion of this presentation is an introduction into the relationship between pleasure and reproductive organs. We will talk about practices to recognize and maintain vaginal/penile health, increase arousal, and promote pleasure.

This presentation is designed for anyone who wants to learn more about their sexuality, and for clinicians who want to learn ways to talk about sex with their clients in session. This discussion is inclusive, people of all sexual and gender orientations are welcome and encouraged to attend. Bring any questions or curiosities about sexuality, and hopefully you will learn some new ways to experience sexual wellbeing in your life.
