A Reframe for Supervision and Consultation Models

    PRESENTERS

    Christine Poane & Michelle Bohls

    PRESENTATION SUMMARY

We all have certain cases that we get stuck on, ones we take to multiple supervision or consultation spaces. “Intervision” is a consultation model that supports your clinical intuition, allowing new insights about your clients to rise up into a greater level of awareness in you. Although supervision is both necessary and helpful, the language may unconsciously imply another’s advice is superior, and the model is innately about seeking guidance from a hierarchical relationship, sourcing feedback from outside ourselves. In contrast, intervision sources feedback from inside ourselves and provides a unique way to seek and find our own deeper truth about a case.

Through a structure of techniques drawn from Imago Clinical Therapy, the therapist who is exploring their case is able to find powerful insights into themselves and their clients. Intervision leads us to a vision from inside ourselves, one that is temporarily hidden. Perhaps that is why these cases nag at us — there is something yet to understand that is alluding us and our intuition is trying to get our attention. This is also not Innervision, but Intervision. Inter- meaning ‘between’ illuminates that this process takes place in a relational space between two people. Often, we suggest using a 3rd person as a guide to make sure that all clinical answers come from you and your intuition.

Come experience your own intuitive guidance about a case, couple, family, or even a personal challenge with another person in your personal life!
