    TOPIC

    BHEC Operations & Rule Changes

    for LPCs & LMFTs

    PRESENTER

    Brittany Neece, LPC-S, LMFT-S

    PRESENTATION SUMMARY

This presentation will focus on the operations of our new state executive council, The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC), as well as identify and review changes to board rules for both LPCs and LMFTs.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

As of September 1st, 2020, the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (referred to as BHEC) has been adopting rules and investigating complaints in Texas.  You, as a licensed mental health provider in Texas, are expected to know and understand the role that BHEC plays with individual licensing boards, as well as new and proposed rules changes that have taken effect.  You are also expected to know the updates regarding the application process and continuing education requirement changes.

This information can be overwhelming and difficult to find if you are not familiar with BHEC or how to utilize its website.  Rules changes are not simply laid out for you, and yet you are still required to know this important information.  My goal is to help condense this material for you, making it much simpler to know what rules have changed that impact your license, and where to go to find out more.  After attending this presentation, you will be able to learn and identify the following:

    • Understand the structure of BHEC, what it does, and why it was created

    • Identify changes to Rules and Code of Ethics for TX LPC, LMFT licenses that have been implemented in 2020
    • Identify changes to the process of license renewal and/or application requirements
    • Receive an introductory tour of the BHEC website and what you need to know to navigate it
