Using Attachment-Based Parenting to Increase Connection in Families

    Presenter

Kelly Edwards, MA, LMFT Associate, LPC Intern

Supervised by Juliane Taylor Shore, LPC-S, LMFT-S

    PRESENTATION SUMMARY

This presentation will help attendees understand ways to use psycho-education to help clients understand attachment principles and how it applies to connecting and making repairs in families with children.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES
    • Explaining attachment to clients in ways that are easy to understand and apply the learning.
    • Helping clients understand attachment needs. The attachment needs of all, regardless of age includes feeling safe, being heard, being seen, being understood, knowing how to soothe, and knowing that one matters.
    • Key attachment-based strategies in making repairs. Perfect parents do not exist, however it is important to admit a mistake and make a repair when that happens. This helps children feel more secure in their attachment and models relational health.
    • Sharing attachment-based parenting resources with clients. The list will include books and websites to share with clients.
