      TOPIC

      Assessment for Neurodivergent Adults

      PRESENTER

      Amy Blackmon, Ph.D.

      PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION

Many adults with Autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergent features have never been identified. This can affect performance at school and work, and quality of life. Assessment can differentiate neurological and psychiatric concerns, and offer recommendations for therapy, interpersonal relations, school, and the work place. This presentation will explain how assessment works, and who and why it helps.

      KEY LEARNING POINTS

        • How does neuropsychological assessment work?

        • What causes a person to be neurodivergent?

        • What can be recommended for neurodivergent people to improve their lives?

        BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Blackmon completed a bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Rice University and three postgraduate degrees at Yale University, including a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. She completed American Psychological Association Division 40 training in Neuropsychology, including a clinical internship at the South Texas Veterans Health Care Center in San Antonio and a postdoctoral fellowship at a post-acute brain injury and psychiatric rehabilitation facility in central Texas.

Dr. Blackmon is licensed in Texas and has worked in private practice, teaching, hospital, and rehabilitation settings in Austin since 2001. She provides in-person assessment in her northwest Austin office, as well as online assessment when appropriate. She has Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) through PSYPACT, allowing her to provide telehealth to clients in states that participate in PSYPACT. Dr. Blackmon is a certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS).
