    TOPIC

    The Anxious Man Phenomenon -

An exploratory discussion on how to improve engaging and supporting men in therapy

    PRESENTER

    Simon Niblock, MA, LMFT

    PRESENTATION SUMMARY

Successfully engaging men and supporting their therapeutic needs remains an enigma for the counseling profession. Despite the degree of social advocacy inviting men to seek help, men remain resistant and either avoid entirely or disengage from therapy prematurely.

This presentation examines research acquired during the development of his book, The Anxiety Workbook for Men, about why men continue to avoid seeking professional help and what we can do to improve engagement and assisting men in achieving positive and enduring mental health and wellbeing.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • Identify critical reasons why men avoid therapy and why drop-out rates remain so prevalent.
    • Explore contemporary methods to attract and engage men in the therapeutic journey successfully.

    • Learn how to identify and traverse the presentation of hypermasculinity that can impede therapeutic change.
