Austin AMFT is seeking motivated therapists to lead our organization in 2026, and the nomination window for Board positions is officially open.

Our goal is for the Board to reflect the Austin therapy community’s diversity, and BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ therapists are strongly encouraged to apply.

LMFT licensure is not required. Mental health professionals of various licensures are welcome.

President-Elect

The President-elect shall be a Clinical Member or Associate with a reasonable expectation of completing Clinical Member status before completion of the one (1) year term. The President-elect shall serve a term of one (1) year and shall succeed to the office of President. In order to succeed in the President’s position, the President-elect must be a Clinical Member. In the absence of the President, the President-elect performs the duty of President, including running the Organization’s board meetings and events.

  • Respond in a timely manner (24-48 hrs) to member or community questions sent via email to AAMFT or through the website of AAMFT.  If this cannot be done, the President-elect will delegate this duty to the President or Past President for assistance.
  • Do the announcements at monthly CEU luncheons.


treasurer

The Treasurer shall serve a term of two (2) years. The Treasurer shall oversee the management of funds for duly authorized purposes of the Organization, oversee the annual budget, file annual tax reports at both federal and state levels, communicate with the Organization’s financial advisory personnel, and present periodic financial reports and other financial documents required by law. The fiscal year of the Organization shall begin on the first of January.

  • View monthly financial statements for the organization including banking, credit card processing, and tax documentation.
  • Make any necessary and appropriate tax payments or filings for AAMFT.
  • Create an organizational profit and loss financial report to be presented at each monthly board meeting; deliver this report to the president 1-2 days prior to the board meeting.
  • Communicate with Board President, President-elect, and Past President regarding any outstanding balances, significant financial discrepancies, or questions regarding financial tracking and bookkeeping.
  • Make sure “Sales and Use Tax Exemption Certificate” forms are kept ready for any purchases made through Austin AMFT. Keep and file all receipts, both income and expense, and upload into Google Drive folders within two weeks of the event/meeting date.
  • Work with the accountant to assist with appropriate refund requests using online financial programs.
  • Make payments for speakers, workshops/trainings, and other organizational purchases.


PUBLIC RELATIONS DIRECTOR

The Public Relations Director shall serve a term of two (2) years. The Public Relations Director shall be responsible for maintaining the chapter’s website and managing the Organization’s electronic newsletter and announcements prior to each event. The Public Relations Director will coordinate activities as appropriate with the Outreach Director and the Program Director.

  • Responsible for writing, editing, assembling, and disseminating the Chapter electronic newsletter or announcements prior to each chapter meeting and maintaining the chapter’s website.
  • Responsible for keeping an updated mailing list and a chronological file of all the newsletters for the Chapter online.
  • Coordinate event activities as appropriate with the Outreach Director and Program Director.
  • Update the website for upcoming events and any other pertinent information needed on the website each month.


Elections & Engagement

The Elections and Engagement Committee shall serve a term of two (2) years. The committee is responsible for engaging new and current members at meetings and events, preparing a slate of candidates for open Board of Directors positions, and executing the election process in the fall of each year. The Elections Committee shall prepare a slate of nominees for all elected positions, and shall oversee the elections of such positions as provided in these bylaws and in rules and procedures adopted by the Board for elections.

  • Engaging new and continued members at meetings and events and will execute the election process in the fall of each year (i.e. welcoming meeting attendees, informing attendees about upcoming events, opportunities and elections, encouraging membership, etc.)
  • Prepare a slate containing at least one nominee for each position and shall determine the eligibility and willingness of each nominee to stand for election.
  • Ballots shall be counted by the Elections committee, as well as announced at the following Board meeting and luncheon event.


MEMBER-AT-LARGE

The Member-at-large shall serve a term of one (1) year. The Member-at-large’s duties and responsibilities are to support the Board of Directors where needed, tasks vary according to the needs of the Organization.

  • Welcomes meeting attendees, informs attendees about upcoming events, opportunities and elections, and encourages membership.
  • Assist at the registration table for monthly luncheon events.
  • Assist other Board members in performing roles and responsibilities as needed.

Student Representative

The Student Representative shall serve a term of one (1) year. The Student Representative shall continue in their position on the board after graduation until the completion of their term as long as they are in good standing within the appropriate membership category. The Student Representative shall serve as a liaison between the Organization and local universities and help organize and promote student-focused membership and events.
  • Welcomes meeting attendees, informs attendees about upcoming events, opportunities and elections, and encourages membership (especially students).
  • Informs their affiliated university about AAMFT membership, events, and benefits of being involved in the organization.
  • Helps organize, attend, and promote student-focused events (i.e. Student/Intern – Supervisor Meet & Greet events).
  • Assist other Board members in performing roles and responsibilities as needed.
