      Michelle Hawn, LPC-S

The Founder & CEO of Labyrinth Counseling, Michelle is a Therapist, LPC Supervisor, and Workshop Facilitator. She works with adults and couples, and especially enjoys helping her clients explore anger, anxiety, trauma (including spiritual trauma), grief, life transitions, and all manner of relationship issues.

Michelle has studied with The Couples Institute (Developmental Model), is a Gottman Couples Therapist (Level 2); and is currently studying Interpersonal Neurobiology, Coherence Therapy and Non-Violent Communication.

        TOPIC

Comfort | Meaning | Balance: The Foundation of all Clinical Work

        PRESENTER

        Dave Braham, MA, LMFT-S

        PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION

Comfort, Meaning & Balance, these are the themes that emerged with my clients in the post-pandemic emergent need for mental health support. This presentation proposes that every clinical intervention in the field of psychotherapy is designed to address the goals of Comfort (dis-ease), Meaning (dis-connection) & Balance (dis-regulation).

This systemic framework helps simplify client goals, promote present moment awareness, a focus on somatic experiences, and mind-body connection. Comfort, Meaning, & Balance acts as a grounding tool for the therapeutic process. It provides an anchor for both the client and therapist to better focus on attainable goals, and serves to redirect the therapist when we get lost in the forest of our client’s needs.

In addition, this model provides a common narrative for therapists to better self-disclose our own efforts at Comfort, Meaning & Balance and dispel the myth that a therapist has the “perfect family, relationships, life, etc”. In turn, this validates the client's experience of being human and the amazing effort it takes to feel comfortable, safe, and vulnerable in the world.

        KEY LEARNING POINTS

        • Learn how to self-regulate the body and its ability to heal through the lens of Comfort, Meaning & Balance.
        • Identify multiple interventions in each category of Comfort, Meaning & Balance.
        • Create a narrative of Comfort, Meaning & Balance as core to the therapeutic process.

        BIOGRAPHY

Dave's experience in mental health runs decades deep. His primary clinical focus integrates issues related to peak performance, trauma, healing, gender violence, positive masculinity, and a drive to bridge the muse of music and mental health. He is a trauma-informed licensed clinical psychotherapist (MA, LMFT-S, TX #291392) and utilizes techniques to deepen somatic comfort and strengthen mindfulness. These practices, alongside advanced applications in EMDR and clinical hypnosis, hold the power to strengthen progress, grow comfort, and heal trauma.
